Objectives

The main objective of this subproject is to build up significant capacity for DNA extraction, conservation and distribution in order to support all ARCAD activities dealing with DNA samples.

This project aims to:

  • add the equipment required for high quality DNA sample collection, extraction, quality checking and archival storage;
  • design appropriate procedures for the creation and setting up of a DNA bank for Mediterranean and tropical crops.

A methodological component have been developed in a related project funded by the iBiSA foundation (Infrastructures en Biologie Santé et Agronomie). In order to fit with the recommendations of the IPGRI/Bioversity report on the international plant DNA banks, we have conducted a methodological study for the creation of a plant DNA bank associated with the Biological Resources Centers of Vitis sp. and Medicago sp. located in Montpellier.
