Pearl millet: not an orphan crop for the media

Yves Vigouroux, a co-leader of the Crop adaptation to climate change project, was one of the guests of the RFI (Radio France Internationale) programme “C’est pas du vent” on January 26 , 2010.

Yves was interviewed on the adaptation of pearl millet to climate change. He and his research group recently identified one of the genes involved in flowering time of pearl millet ( Saïdou et al., Genetics 2009 ), a trait of great adaptive importance.

During his interview, Yves stressed the importance of the genetic diversity of local pearl millet varieties in adapting to environmental changes, while Boubacar, a farmer in Niger, mentioned the important role of local varieties in food security.
